Code Enforcement

Keeping Merrillville neighborhoods clean, safe and well maintained is a shared community responsibility. The Town’s Code Enforcement Division works to address common property maintenance issues that can impact quality of life and neighborhood appearance. Residents are reminded to keep grass and weeds trimmed below eight inches, properly dispose of branches and debris, park vehicles only on approved driveways, and ensure all vehicles are plated and operational. Outdoor areas should remain free of clutter such as appliances, furniture, yard waste and car parts, while trash and recycling containers should be stored away after pickup day. Portable basketball hoops should remain in driveways and not in the street, and damaged fences, pools and exterior home features should be repaired or removed promptly. By working together, we can help keep Merrillville a clean, attractive and welcoming community for everyone.

If you notice code violations in the community, please report them using our Request for Service page.
