Code of Ordinances

The Town of Merrillville’s Code of Ordinances is the official collection of local laws and regulations adopted by the Town Council. These ordinances help protect public health, safety and quality of life while providing clear standards for residents, businesses and visitors.

The Code of Ordinances covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • Property maintenance and nuisance regulations
  • Building and zoning requirements
  • Traffic and parking regulations
  • Business licensing and operations
  • Public safety standards

The code explains what is expected within the community. It helps ensure consistency, fairness and accountability throughout Merrillville.

Ordinances are adopted through public meetings and may be updated periodically as the needs of the community change. Once approved, ordinances become part of the Town’s official municipal code.

Residents are encouraged to review the Code of Ordinances to better understand local regulations and responsibilities. The online version is provided as a convenient resource and is updated regularly to reflect the most current information.
