Eric January serves as the Clerk-Treasurer for the Town of Merrillville.
The Clerk-Treasurer plays a vital role in keeping the Town of Merrillville running smoothly by managing the town’s finances, records and official documents. Responsibilities include receiving and overseeing town funds, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing budgets and financial statements, managing investments, and processing payroll and payments for employees and vendors. The Clerk-Treasurer also serves as clerk for the Town Council by attending meetings, recording proceedings, maintaining official records and safeguarding the town seal. In addition, the office issues licenses, collects fees, administers oaths and performs other duties required by state law.
