Favela becomes Merrillville's newest officer

Help us congratulate Edgar Favela, Merrillville’s newest police officer!

Favela, who was sworn in during last week’s Town Council meeting, is a Hammond native. Police Chief Kosta Nuses said Favela has about four years of experience as a prison guard.

“Favela is going to bring to us a lot of experience that he developed while he was at the jails, and that is something that is very valued, especially when you are out on the street,” Nuses said.

He said that experience will give Favela a headstart as he heads to the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Field training will follow when Favela completes the academy.
