Snow removal continues Saturday in Merrillville

plowThe Merrillville Street Department has been working diligently since early Friday to clear snow from Town roadways, and the latest focus has been the drifting snow caused by strong winds in the area.
Merrillville Street Department Director Steve King said his crew was working into the afternoon on Saturday to plow back the drifts in the community, and the department could return Saturday night to clear more drifts, if necessary.
“We’re monitoring the wind,” King said. “We have a crew on standby to keep up with the drifting, so we’ll be out there.”
Snow drifts haven’t been the only challenge for the Street Department.
“There have been so many cars parked out there that we have to go around,” King said. “We get as close as we can, but we can’t get all of the snow off the road when cars are parked out there.”
If you haven’t yet done so, please move vehicles that are parked in the roadway. This will help the Street Department with snow removal efforts that are necessary to keep roads safe.
King said it’s been all-hands-on-deck for the Street Department to plow roads since the winter weather hit the area.
“Our entire crew has been out plowing streets, including myself,” King said.
