MERRILLVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS PARTICIPATE IN RAIN BARREL COMPETITION AT EARTH DAY EVENT
Students from eight (8) Merrillville public schools participated in the Northwest Indiana Earth Day Celebration’s 2016 Rain Barrel Design Competition on April 16th. Students from Merrilville High School, Clifford Pierce Middle School, the Merrillville Intermediate School (MIS), and also Jonas Salk, Edgar Miller, Henry Fieler, Homer Iddings and John Wood Elementary Schools competed in this public environmental art contest.
John Wood School’s rain barrel won second place, winning a $50 classroom scholarship and a hand chair. Iddings School’s rain barrel won third place, winning a $50 classroom scholarship. Both schools were in the Elementary category of the competition
Merrillville Stormwater Utility sponsored the eight Merrillville schools for the competition by purchasing the rain barrels and materials for the project. Twenty-eight schools from Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties participated in the competition.
