EROSION CONTROL LUNCH & LEARN HELD AT STORMWATER RESOURCE CENTER ON SEPT. 16, 2015

The Merrillville Stormwater Resource Center hosted a Lunch & Learn sponsored by Siltworm, by Moore & Moore Erosion Control, on September 16, 2015.  Vice President Joe Moore gave a PowerPoint presentation about the benefits of Siltworm.  Local engineers, builders and landscape companies attended, along with crew members from Indiana American Water.  The program was designed to inform those attending of its use for sediment and erosion control.  Various uses include sediment control in the event of a water main break, concrete truck washout areas to create a pool around the washout pit, use by fire and police departments to filter oil, etc. at oil spills and accident sites and protecting tree roots at landscape sites, which are beneficial for Stormwater’s Best Management Practices (BMPs).  The 100% recycled wood filler in Siltworm retains an increased volume of water, which prevents or reduces erosion; the wood filler can retain pollutants such as heavy metals, fuels and other potentially hazardous substances, thereby improving downstream water quality.  Some benefits of using Siltworm are that there is no equipment required, it can be placed directly on frozen ground or concrete, can be used as an inlet protection for storm drains and to reduce water flow in small ditches and they can be used again on other sites.  Siltworm can be purchased from various local distributors, according to Erin Koertgen, Siltworm’s sales and marketing manager.  For further information, visit http://www.siltworm.com.
