Town Manager
Tim Brown
Tim was born and raised in Valparaiso, In. where he graduated high school in 1979. He met his future wife Lori at a church function at the Merrillville Roller Rink in 1976.
Lori and Tim both attended and graduated from Ball State University in 1983. Mr. Brown graduated with two degrees one in Urban and Regional Planning and the other in Geography. Married in 1985 they have two children Bradley age 10 and Suzanne age 4.
Tim has worked as a public servant all of his adult life with internships in Muncie, In., and Valparaiso, In. His full-time positions have included wearing many different hats and at times simultaneously. He started his professional career as City Planner, Park Superintendent, and Economic Development Director for the City of Angola, In. Then in 1986 as Planning and Building Administrator for the Town of Merrillville, In. The Town Manager position for the Town of Cedar Lake, In. became available in 1996. And since November of 2004, Tim is back as Town Manager for the Town of Merrillville.
His hobbies include refurbishing antique furniture, and collecting glass telegraph/telephone and railroad insulators. Fishing is his passion when time allows, especially during the winter on the ice. Affiliations include memberships on the Board of Directors for the Christmas in September Program of South Lake County, the Board of Directors for the Merrillville Chamber of Commerce, the President of the Cedar Lake Historical Association, and the NIPSCO Citizens’ Advisory Panel (CAP). He graduated from the Leadership Northwest Indiana (LNI) Academy in 2000 and periodically is a guest speaker for LNI classes.
